ONCE UPON A TIME...... ON CURLS ASSOCIATION..........

Five funny ladies have decided each on their own and on their respective farms (DESYS, JAK CURLY and QUILY) to dedicate all their time, energy, intelligence and money to raising a rather odd and unknown horse: the North American curly.

In 2006, they founded the Association On Curls, the National Organisation of the Leisure and Sports Curly.

The 3 ON CURLS breeders are now strongly united and determined to get the curly breed referenced by the National Stud Farm (Haras Nationaux).

Being rigorous in breeding stallions for reproduction and yearlings for optimum growth does not prevent members of the association to be inventive and bold; projects are as tight in their heads as curls on an extreme curly. Together and supported by On Curls members, they think first of keeping the qualities of the curly, faithfully applying the principles of the American ICHO study book. They also want to engage in selection using the best breeding programs and all the American and French valorization techniques.

Keeping in mind allergic people, they encourage and translate scientific research; they plan to create a hair bank and to refurbish their facilities to best welcome allergic people in specific relay stations.

They strive to have French people discover this extraordinary breed, in the media, participating in shows and competitions or organizing various events. Coming from different backgrounds, they are in touch with almost all the horse world, from show-jumping competition to ethology, in small villages as in big horse shows. They weave a network that encompasses European breeders and the best American breeders. They are also starting to be acknowledged by the Haras Nationaux (National stud farms) in order to have the breed officially certified.

Using the most recent techniques and knowledge regarding the curly breed, which put together, become encyclopaedic they feel ready to endorse the role of ambassadors of the American curly in France. Yet their main asset and flag remain the finely curled treasures that graze in their fields and gallop under their saddles.
For these breeders and owners, depending on their interests, have found the kindest and most sportive curly one can imagine. The “French school” is known for avoiding breeds that are too mixed, for example the Missouri fox trotter so frequent in Northern Europe and highly inbred.

The On Curls breeders are bent on sport riding, but they don’t reject certain good western stock, mainly Canadian stock. To define the value of their horses, they have established a charter of quality. There is a world between a curly raised without any care in wild bunches in Montana (some alleging the proverbial rusticity of the curly as a pretext) and the curly bred by the most thorough European breeders. Quality in breeding has a cost, which, as everybody knows, will be amortized much faster than the cost of a horse which growth and training have been neglected. To justify this quality, On Curls develops a set of guaranties which will allow everyone to buy a horse for a life time.
